I really am interested in plaintiff’s personal injury. It all stems from my job as an office assistant at a personal injury firm in college. Good Riddance 2020 – What’s on the Horizon for 2021?

Zarzaur law Get rid of Coronavirus

Dumpster fire or you can call it what you will – some people just call it “2020.”

I don’t think I need to explain to anyone how horrible this year has been from a productivity standpoint, not to mention the fact that we all have been basically fighting for our lives and well-being trying to avoid contracting the coronavirus.

Unfortunately, many people in our country don’t have access to healthcare and some have been left without necessary treatment to beat the virus. We should all be mindful of this fact which has been brought to the forefront because of this pandemic.

We have faced challenges that prior to this year we didn’t even realize existed. For example, how many of us knew what a ZOOM call was prior to January 2020? What did our bosses say about working remotely prior to this year?

The challenges brought about in 2020, in large part by the pandemic, have also made us persevere. We have had to figure out how to work together and not infect each other, how to be productive at home, and how we can relate to our friends and family without infecting them. We have done all of this and still have been able to survive and thrive.

At Zarzaur Law we were able to do this in large part by the guidance of our in-house physician Dr. Evan Malone. Dr. Malone has since the very beginning of the year shepherded us through the various stages of this pandemic, providing us information based on scientific studies. Dr. Malone has also connected us with a local testing company which has provided a level of security in our office each week by knowing that at least, for that week, the people around us at work were not infected. This sense of wellness has not only allowed us to be personally more secure with her own health but has also allowed us to more effectively serve the clients of the law firm in a near-normal manner.

We have not been able to have as many social gatherings or our charity events this year. Whether it be the legal graffiti events, various races that we sponsor, our gavel triathlon team, or competitions that we usually have a chair – when you’re faced with a pandemic like this the priorities become clear.

We knew our priorities were to our own family’s health and well-being followed very closely by the well-being of our client’s cases.

So, our focus this year has been on two main things:

  1. Keeping ourselves healthy
  2. Keeping our client’s cases moving

The news of the vaccine is certainly encouraging, or I should say various vaccines. Zarzaur Law will continue being diligent in protecting our staff from infection until we have all been rid of this disease for good. That will include aggressive masking, distancing, and testing and we will continue to encourage our community to do the same.

At the same time, we will remain focused on our client’s cases. We will make certain that nothing other than aggressive representation is exhibited in the pursuit of their day in court. We will also continue to be available 24 hours/7 days a week (safely) by phone or virtual meetings.

I don’t remember ever being this excited about ending a year. I completely understand the idea of shooting fireworks and perhaps blowing up the past year while looking towards the new one. All of us at Zarzaur Law look forward to serving our community in 2021, as we leave this virus behind and hopefully this time next year be able to serve not only our clients but also our community again in Zarzaur Law fashion.

Public Art in Pensacola Flourishes with New Mural on The Zarzaur Law Building.

Across the country, cities large and small are inspired to bring life to city walls with thoughtful color and design. Local artists have been turning city walls into huge public canvases and the results of their labor can have a lasting effect on the local community. Research has shown that murals provide social, cultural and economic benefits. Murals offer accessibility to art and creative expression without the cost and perceived barriers of traditional galleries or museums. Murals can act as a starting point that can lead to interest in seeing more work inside and outside of gallery spaces. In Pensacola, there has been an ongoing creative renaissance and two local artists wanted to contribute to the the growing excitement of murals in the area.

A more than nine month project came to life in March 2019 for artists Veronique Zayas of Hatchmark Studio and Somi Choi of idgroup. Their “Call for a Wall” project is a gift to the city. Zayas and Choi first announced the “Call for a Wall” on social media to find a Downtown Pensacola business with a wall that would serve as the canvas for a piece that would be a a point of interest and destination in downtown for both tourists and locals alike. Zarzaur Law, P.A. answered the call and offered up their wall for this locally focused and positive mural. Zarzaur Law, P.A., a personal injury law firm lead by Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer Joe Zarzaur, has always been a supporter of the arts and was honored to be chosen as the business and canvas for the mural.

The process took time since they were asking to paint on a historic downtown building, but approval by the Pensacola City Council provided the final steps in bringing the vision and mural to life.

The mural took 3 days to complete and truly ended up being even more beautiful than envisioned. Within the first 5 minutes of the mural’s completion people were lined up to take photos as well as selfies in front of the mural.

The mural incorporates colors that represent positivity, energy and Pensacola’s beautiful sunshine and water. The welcoming message “Wish You Were Here” intertwined with the word Pensacola provides a postcard moment that everyone will be proud to share. The mural is planned to be on display for up to 12 months on The Zarzaur Law building at the corner of Palafox and Romana streets in Pensacola, Florida.

Zarzaur Law: Keeping our Community Safe One Case at a Time

30A Review article
Sept/Oct 2018
By Mary Welch

To Personal Injury Lawyer Joe Zarzaur, there are two things: keep the community safe one case at a time; and the numbers. For community safety: since the onset, his practice has been 100% dedicated to personal injury and wrongful death cases. For the numbers, there is a list. The number of board certified civil trial lawyers in the state of Florida (one percent). The number of dollars he believes is a fair settlement for his client (the highest was $9.3 million against a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson). That’s his bottom-line point of view. And it’s worked for his clients.

Zarzaur, who heads Zarzaur Law, P.A. in Pensacola, is a personal injury lawyer who only takes on cases that involve serious personal injury or wrongful death. He fights for his clients to ensure they receive the compensation they deserve from those who do not take responsibility for their actions.

“I believe in quality, not quantity. I don’t want to work on every case,” he says. “I don’t take every case that comes in the office. I want to make a difference. I want to make things safer and if I can, I’m not going to let a client settle for a quick deal.

“Look, we’re enforcing community safety rules and they’re important. We want to make an impact and help our injured client make their life just a little better.”

Zarzaur is an AV Rated, Board Certified Civil Trial Specialist and recognized as such by the Florida Bar and the National Board of Trial Advocacy; a distinction that he shares with only one percent of Florida Lawyers. To be board certified, an lawyer must pass a series of tests, among having 14 jury trials and recommendations from judges and other lawyers, that recognizes an lawyers’ special knowledge, skills and proficiency in various areas of law, professionalism, and ethics in practice.

“You have a handful of lawyers certified to do this work but you have hundreds more advertising for these cases. The Bar provides a way to discriminate and help educate people on whom they should hire. Most people hire someone because of a bunch of billboards. People must do due diligence before hiring a lawyer,” he says.
It makes little sense, he says, since all personal injury lawyers, regardless of background, record, and professionalism, generally charge the same fee — a percent of the settlement or, in case of a loss, no money. “It’s like walking into a store and the Rolex is the same price as a Timex. And, you choose the Timex,” he says.

Zarzaur’s biggest jury verdict came after almost eight years of litigation. He attained one of the highest injury jury verdicts in Escambia County history against a little known company known as Ethicon Endo Surgery a subsidiary of Johnson and Johnson. The verdict was $9.3 million, which was upheld on appeal. He also followed this verdict with other multi-million dollar jury verdicts and hundreds of million in settlements. “I think that once you get your first multi-million verdict, you know you’re doing the right thing. You know that this is where you should be,” he says. “That was my ‘Ahha’ moment. There’s only a handful of lawyers who have gotten verdicts over $9 million in Florida.”

Zarzaur is in the right place, something he knew since he was in high school. “I knew I wanted to be a lawyer and the idea of being a trial lawyer and in a courtroom was attractive to me.” He first gravitated to criminal law but found that was not his passion. In the end, he realized his talents and heart was in the personal injury side of the practice. “You have to find something that you’re good at and that you love. I don’t care what profession. Find something that makes you want to spend 10 to 12 hours a day doing nothing but that. And, if you’re OK with that, then do it.”

Zarzaur, who is also licensed in his home state of Alabama, says that appearing in front of a jury is a blend of tactics and performance. Rarely do you see the behind the scenes work put in by “Perry Mason”, “Aly McBeal”, or the gang on “Suits”. “I don’t like to think that when I’m in front of a jury that it’s ‘acting.’ But everything must be thought out — every movement, every word. The jury has to relate to you and your clients and if they think you’re acting you’ll lose. But, at the same time, if you don’t present your case in a fashion that is conducive to them, your client’s message may get lost in the mix.”

It’s a fine line; but one that Zarzaur recognizes. Bottom line, he is a lawyer passionate about the community, safety, and getting his clients what they deserve. And isn’t that what anyone would seek in a lawyer?

Pensacola Law Firm: Verdicts matter

What Differentiates Pensacola Law Firm, Zarzaur Law

Pensacola Law FirmYou’ve seen plenty of advertisements for a Pensacola Law Firm. In fact, our community is constantly bombarded with personal injury lawyers peddling themselves and their abilities. However, only a very few of us actually get verdicts to justify their professional suggestions. The fact remains that most every Pensacola Law Firm lawyer in this business charges the same contingency fee for their services but the trial records of personal injury lawyers differ greatly. Many personal injury lawyers advertising for injury cases have never seen a courtroom with a jury much less a verdict form. Ask before you hire a Pensacola Law Firm and personal injury lawyer whether they have recent verdicts. Verdicts matter.
